========== WRITTEN TEST ==========

“And we’re finished.”

The rodent pushed the papers in front of her forward with her banner, eyes glittering against the pale sunlight streaming through the clear window of the building. The Pokemon sitting across from him clicked his tongue in curiosity, quickly skimming the registration papers for the Hunters guild. The squirrel raised a brow, a small laugh escaping her throat. With a tint of doubt, the ‘mon picked up the stamp, placing it onto the ink pad before landing the mark onto the file. The inking was big and bold, a single large red check as a sign of approval. The Electric-type nodded her head in thanks, and hurried out the building. “Basil, where are you?” Her voice was cheerful like that of a songbird. “We’re going to meet the Hunters representative, and there’s going to be food!”

At the mention of food, a small, red-brown canine padded up to where the rodent stood, its golden brown eyes locked intently on to her small figure.

“Food?” Her voice was barely a whisper. Her ears perked up and she instinctively raised her muzzle, almost as if it would lead her to the sweet delicacies. Without warning, she wandered away from the ‘mon, her nose guiding her, as she maneuvered her way through clusters of Pokémon, until she ultimately came across a large building.

“That rich aroma is coming from here,” she concluded. “Mm. Ripe Tomato-flavoured curry with a pinch of Occa juice. And is that... a rib-eye I smell?!”

The Fire-type craned her neck to look for her partner and spotted her just a few Buneary-hops away. A growl escaped her throat as she barked, “C’mon! I’m starving. Let’s go already!”

“Alright, alright!” The Pachirisu laughed before hurrying on forward; the last thing she wanted was to have her pelt roasted. Before the two stood a popular dining stop, Café Obscurité. Many of the passing Pokemon took wistful glances into the building, wishing if they could be the ones living with fine dining. The doors opened, the sleek looking Pokemon at the front quickly swept them to their table. A Normal-type, donned with a sly smile and blue cap, was already seated.

"Hey, pull up a seat. Order your favorites; this one's on the Guild's checkbook," The Furret nodded to the two vacant seats in front of him. The lighting seemed to darken ever so slightly in the already dim setting. The Electric-type scrambled on top of the chair, auds pinned back against her head. She could just barely see the table top. Quickly, the Pokemon who greeted them at the front of the fine establishment hurried to their table, sliding a small stack of magazines under the Electric-type. She grinned, then turned to face the coy Furret sending the two of them a smile that was halfway between a grin and a smirk.

“We’ll get you a booster seat next time,” The Fire-type chuckled.

“At least I can see everyone now~” The rodent stuck her tongue out. The adjacent ‘mon tilted his cranium to the side before laughing the awkwardness off. As soon as the two settled down at the table, a grandly dressed Empoleon appeared to the table with three elegantly-pressed menus. The Pachirisu took up a menu in her paws, staring at the elaborate display of well-made foods. “... This looks much too expensive for my own good. But could I have an Oran and Pecha Berry Shake please?”

"The usual," Without a single glance at the parchment in his paws, the Normal-type pressed the menu against the chest of the penguin. The Water-type merely rolled his eyes before turning more gleefully towards the Vulpix.

Meanwhile, as her partner made her decision all too quick, the Vulpix took her time, scanning through the menu with unblinking eyes. She was well aware of the Empoleon’s piercing gaze boring into her russet-coloured pelt, but she wanted to taste the most exquisite meal the restaurant had to offer.

“Iapapa and Razz-- no, Sitrus Steak please! Make it medium well with a side of…” She paused momentarily, catching the Furret’s eye, and huffed, adding quietly, “Just a Sitrus Steak please.”

Reluctantly, she watched the Empoleon nod pointedly and return to the kitchen to place their orders. A sense of dignity and pride won the battle of her gluttonous ways. If they wanted to impress a representative of the Hunters guild, acting as a Munchlax upon the first meeting wasn’t the way to go.

"No sense of humor," The Furret shrugged, slinging an arm in a lazy fashion over the chair back. "The name's Cuffin, but I'm sure you've already heard of me. No need for introductions on your part, I already know who ya are," A smirk tugged at the edges of the said 'mon's lips. He tapped his fingers together, occasionally drumming them on the tabletop in a rhythmic manner.

"So... I work for this kid, Sundance. He made me promise to ask ya a few things before I go off on my own thing. He'll get his feathers in a bunch if I don't, so humor me. First things first: why do you wanna join the Hunters?" Cuffin waved a paw.

Why?” The Vulpix echoed whilst tilting her head to the right side. She looked at her partner before returning her attention back to the Furret. His question was trivial; why exactly did they want to join the Hunters? The reason never came across her. She just wanted to...join because they were cool. With a small shrug, she gave the Normal-type an honest look. No point in lying.

“I’m not entirely sure. Explorers sound like a lot of work and I’m just not up for that. Plus, Researchers sound boring. Who wants to spend their days mixing spices and herbs? Not me! I want adventure-- that, you know, excludes the fact that not only am I exploring awesome-looking caves, but requires me to help Pokémon in need!”

“Hunters are all about the managing money and the citizens; all the social work, information, correct?” The Pachirisu leaned forward, resting her chin on her hands which were propped up by her elbows on the table. Her long, fluffy plume brushed the tops of the wooden floor below. “But nevertheless, it just seemed... appealing. Sure, exploring and making strange, mysterious concoctions were interesting, but the work that the Hunters do is simply interesting. Knowing things, possibly even before the Researchers, about other ‘mons? Exciting. Plus, Sundance is quite the young guild leader; pretty inspiring if I do say so myself.”

Cuffin fixed his posture, removing the lazy look he donned on before and put on a new suit of curiosity for what the two were saying. He clearly wasn’t ticked off by the response like he was for the question itself. "All right. Respectable, yeah. Down the list..." He reached for a paper already placed upon the table. Was that always there? Instead of reading it, like what normal ‘mons do, the Furret huffed and crumpled it up in a quite rude manner, soon tossing it over in shoulder to finish it off. "What can you bring to the Hunters? What skills or talents can you utilize for us?" And with that, the Normal-type resumed his lazy, almost mocking pose. Even his tone of voice seemed somewhat bland when reciting the question.

“Well... Basil has a way with words for sure. If you don’t give her what she wants... Then I suppose you’d be in for quite the treat. I suppose that’s good for keeping criminals in check. And if there’s food involved, her nose will lead us the right way.” She laughed. “Sorry, but it’s true. However, she’s the best friend, and partner, any Pokemon could ask for. Everything about her is fantastic; I’m most positively sure the Hunters can use every asset of her, if there is a delectable reward at the end.”

“Only seems fair,” the Vulpix huffed. She shot her partner a grateful look, even despite being embarrassed, and began to mull over what she’d say about her.

“And while I’m brash and vulgar, I suppose, Tiramisu is the exact opposite! Sure, she’s kind and sweet, but beneath that lies a beast just waiting to take over! ...Wait, this is coming out wrong.

“I mean, Tia is logical and sensible. While I’d jump right into action, she’d take the time to assess any situation and then dive right in. I know that being apart of the Hunters requires some gut, and trust me she has it. As I said before, her sweetness is only a facade. She can really kick butt if she wanted to!”

“I think the Hunters could do with a duo like us. We may be cute, but we’ll pack a punch when needed.” She finished strongly all while puffing out her chest in pride.

"Yeah, yeah, I gotcha. I guess we'll get to see some of that soon enough. Don't get me wrong; your answer don't mean you're gonna be taken or thrown out. This is basically... formalities..." Cuffin tilted his cranium upward, his blurry blue gaze tinted with thought. "...Yeah, formalities. I think that's the word he used. Whatever that means.”

The Electric-type frowned ever so slightly. ’Dear Arceus. Is he alright?’ As if nothing changed about him, Cuffin grinned, his tone of voice lowering, almost to that of a whisper. "This one's more interestin', to the little guy's credit. Are you against doin' things that the Royal Guard ain't gonna like if they catch ya doin' em?"

Now this was much more interesting than the questions he asked the two above. The white and blue pelted squirrel smirked slightly. “Well, I am perfectly fine with bending--note, bending; not breaking--the rules when needed. If I must play dirty, then I shall.”

“Same. Except, you know, I’d be more willing,” the Fire-type shrugged.

One aud of the Normal-type seemed to twitch at the answers. "It ain't me, just sayin'. I know well enough that if yer here, then you an' I are prolly already aware of the answer to that question. I just needed somethin' to tell the kid." With a flair of drama, Cuffin threw his paws into the air then let them hang by the sides of the chair. A sigh of relief escaped his furry maw. "Whew. All right, enough of that stuff. The kid is on the right track, but sometimes it seems like the royals crammed a stick really far up there, if ya know what I mean. All these "formalities" and junk... anyway, the rest is straight from me."

His bright, attentive eyes moved from left then to right, never focusing on a single object nor Pokemon in the cafe. This was more of his own “formalities” Tiramisu could conclude. Different, yes. Strange, most definately. Cuffin then leaned forward, resting his arms on the table. "You already know the basic stuff, so I'm gonna level with ya. Truth is, the Hunters are all about knowin' things about everybody else. Yer gonna learn secrets that nobody else will know.” His voice was oddly sincere, much different from his previous, bored tone. ”It'll change the way you look at this whole city, and yer prolly not gonna like what you see, but you'll always know exactly what's goin' on under the coat of sugar. I wouldn't blame ya if you'd rather go hang with a Guild that doesn't deal in the worst of what Andalusst can offer."

Basil scrunched her nose at his suggest. Why would they leave when they had the city right in their paws, sort to speak. Knowing everything about anybody was a gift and the possibilities that would entail were endless. With such information, you could do anything and get away with it; maybe, if you were careful.

“As much as we appreciate your concern,” she said with an almost playful voice, “we’ll pass. Danger doesn’t faze us one bit, isn’t that right, Tia?”

The Furret smirked, his non-serious air light and cheery at the response given. "Is that so? Well... to be honest, I would've blamed ya, actually," He laughed, his tone edged with teasing. "Who doesn't wanna know everything about everybody? Life is all about keepin' yer options as open as possible 'til the right moment."

Just as Cuffin shut his mouth, the waiter comes back into view, flippers covered with everyone’s food. The Empoleon placed their food down in front of the team, hesitating as if he were contemplating on whether he should spit in it or not. The Furret didn’t seem to notice anyways, he wasn’t even looking at the waiter. Tiramisu tilted her head slightly. ’Is he partially blind?’ As Cuffin’s plate was placed before him with a moderate clatter, he turned to face the two of them before giving the Empoleon any of his attention.

An overwhelming smell of food overcame the Vulpix’s senses as the Empoleon dropped the plates onto the table. She fought to keep her hunger at bay as her Sitrus Steak was placed in front of her. Part of her wanted to devour it right then and there, but the other part told her to wait because, for whatever reason, Cuffin seemed to not be done talking. And she didn’t want to upset a representative. So, giving him a pointed stare--no, glare--she allowed him to continue.

"Before we eat..." He reached forward for the nearest glass. Cuffin then held it up and across the table, a sly grin across his maw. "Let's toast, to the new recruits,"  The Normal-type proposed, the ice cubes clinking in the glass he was holding.

"...That's you, just so ya know."

“Cheers!” Tiramisu smiled, holding her shake up into the air before taking a long sip, the flavors of Oran and Pecha berry mixing together perfectly.

Looking between the two, as if it were her cue, a mumbled, “Cheers” left the Vulpix’s maw before she dug into the steak. If the Hunters were planning on serving her every time she entered a fancy restaurant, she wouldn’t mind one bit.
